Is mindfulness just a fad?

What is mindfulness? Dr. Alex Snow, WVU Teaching Assistant Professor in Religious Studies, provides us with an understanding of mindfulness and its ancient roots in Buddhism.  
Are the contemporary adaptations in mainstream Western culture and health care just a fad?   Or is there really something for all of us in this ancient way of thinking and living?
